Duplex Escapement / Echappement Duplex
Frictional rest escapement / Echappement à repos frottant
The duplex watch escapement was invented by Robert Hooke around 1700, improved by Jean Baptiste Dutertre and Pierre Le Roy, and put in final form by Thomas Tyrer, who patented it in 1782.
The duplex escapement was difficult to make but achieved much higher accuracy than the cylinder escapement.
