This technique uses lava source and water source blocks and their natural behavior to generate a cobblestone wall. This technique will work with BOTH Java and Bedrock Editions of Minecraft. It can also be used as a compliment, rather than a substitute, for a piston-based self repairing wall, combining the strengths of both.
