Today I'm taking you through an easy process to create an expressive acrylic portrait. I am working on a black gessoed canvas and first creating a grayscale underpainting before adding color.
My reasons for painting in grayscale first: 1) It establishes the values. 2) Color doesn't show up as well on a black canvas, so a grayscale painting will allow transparent colors to be visible.
