My extension to this main channel: Echo Protocol Lab - @EchoProtocollab Lyrics: Key in the slot, turn it to life Engine hums like it’s ready to fight Coffee in the holder, map in my brain Just me, my wheels, and the morning lane Seatbelt click, mirrors aligned Deep breath, let’s see what I find Blower kicks on, radio plays Another calm start to highway maze Pull from the curb slow Neighborhood crawl before the show I whisper a prayer to the traffic gods “Please don’t send interesting drivers today.” And there goes one already. Blinker on, easing into the street Suddenly a rocket cuts in front of me No signal. No warning. Just swoop like a pigeon on french fries I slam the brake, my coffee jumps My patience drops five rungs I lean forward gripping the wheel “Did you get your license from a cereal box?! Was it printed on the back next to the maze puzzle?!” He’s gone already, flying away Probably thinks he’s in a nascar race I shake my head and grin “Alright road… round one begins.” On the road again Just me and all these maniacs again Every lane’s a circus ride Clowns on wheels on every side On the road again Watching common sense come to an end But I’ll cruise and laugh and grin Cause I’m still rolling On the road again Left lane blur goes screaming past Like his car’s powered by a jet engine blast There he goes, Mr. Important Probably late for a sandwich appointment He’s weaving lanes like a video game Passing everyone like we’re standing still I shake my head “Buddy you’re burning gas and raising your blood pressure For absolutely zero treasure.” And there he is on the shoulder line Talking politely to the officer Head hanging low His turbo confidence gone with the flow I drive by slow with the biggest grin “Well look at that… the race didn’t end with a win.” I laugh so hard I almost miss the lane “Enjoy the ticket! Hope the fine includes a souvenir frame!” On the road again Watching chaos happen again Speeding heroes, sudden brakes Every mile a new mistake On the road again Front row seat to foolishness again But I’ll cruise and laugh and grin Still rolling On the road again Another sports car rockets by Engine roaring like a battle cry He passes me with flair “Cool story, champ.” Two minutes later guess what I see A red traffic light. Long line. Guess who’s waiting patiently. Right there in lane number two The same racecar genius I once knew I roll up calm at normal speed Window down I lean out to speak “Well that was an exciting performance back there.” He stares forward pretending I’m air I continue anyway “You passed twelve cars and half a tank of fuel Just to arrive at the same red light I did.” “ha ha ha ha” “Outstanding strategy.” Light turns green I wave politely “See you at the next one!” On the road again Comedy show around each bend Engines roaring, tempers flare Logic floating in the air On the road again Patience being tested again But I’ll cruise and laugh and grin Still rolling On the road again Highway ramp ahead, I merge with grace Into the high-speed metal race Cars packed tight, lanes stacked wide Four lanes deep of human pride One tailgates like he’s towing me Another camps in the passing lane I gesture at the windshield “left lane is for passing not for sightseeing!” i throw my hands up “what are we braking for?! did a ghost cross the highway?! is there an invisible parade?!” And I continue my narration “Welcome to National Geographic: Observe the wild commuter in its natural habitat.” Exit ramp ahead, I slow the pace Leaving the high-speed metal race Up ahead flashing lights Railroad crossing blocking the site Barriers down, bells ringing loud Cars piling up in a waiting crowd I stop calmly behind the line A genius swerves around the gate He zips across the tracks like he’s late I slap the steering wheel in shock “are you kidding me?! the lights are flashing! the barriers are down! that means train!” i point at the windshield again “it’s not a suggestion! it’s a train!” but i continue yelling anyway “congratulations! you just won first place in the ‘bad decision olympics!’” Then the train arrives Thunder on rails I lean back watching it roll by “And that, ladies and gentlemen… is why the barriers exist.” On the road again Watching madness again People rushing Just to shave a minute off their trip On the road again Front row seat to chaos again But I’ll cruise and laugh and grin Cause the truth in the end Speeding, swerving, racing sin Still won’t beat Driving calm On the road again Trip almost done, thank god I pull up surviving chaos Engine idles, journey complete Finally parked in my quiet street I shut it down and stretch my arms Peaceful moment Then I look back toward the road and grin “Well… That was entertaining.” Key out. Door shuts. Tomorrow… I’ll be back On the road again.
