Eicosanoids are a group of hormones belonging to the local hormones. In contrast to classical hormones, local hormones aren’t synthesized in endocrine glands and transported to the target site but are produced directly within the tissue. Eicosanoids constitute a large number of similar hormones and can exert different effects depending on the organ they’re produced in.
