This is the ice representative of my "Elements" album. The scale used was the 3L4s of 17 EDO. This scale has a lot of "neutral" intervals, which gives a scale of clear tonality but ambiguous mood. Like ice, it's cold and devoid of clear emotion, neither "happy" nor "sad." I ended up going for a kind of paleolithic "ice age" motif for the song, though that wasn't the direction I was originally planning on. That's just how it ended up, and it definitely fits with the ice theme. Many of the sounds were created by using granular or wavetable manipulations of a sample sound of shattering glass. This sound was used to create the drone and pad sounds as well as the crystally, shattering sound used as percussion. The wind sounds came from pink noise in a bandpass filter. The lead was a xylophone-ish sound which gave a bit of a "cave man" primitive vibe, and the ostinato was made using FM.
