We wonder why we don’t “hunger & thirst after righteousness” while we keep filling our minds and days with whatever is comfortable or routine - busy schedules, pleasure, entertainment, even negativity... Whatever your “filler” is for some measure of satisfaction or comfort. Anyone who has fasted/rested from sugar knows the increased alertness and energy you experience after the initial withdrawal, as well as a new appreciation and enjoyment of healthier foods! God gave us the Sabbath to rest from our labors and from pursuing our desires - a weekly detox from things that won’t last to help us focus on Him. Longer periods of rest from our “fillers” may be what we need to renew our hunger for Truth and make room to receive Him. For He satisfies the longing souls and fills the hungry soul with goodness.
