This is a short, temperamental piece for string quartet that was sketched around 2012-2014 - part of my cycle "the Stars of the Constellations". I made a video of it to show of my emerging concept of "punk avante-gard" at the time, but the piece was never properly edited or performed (and it was one of my first attempts at recording in GarageBand). Since then, the notation has evolved and is now more representational of what being played, but still is open in terms of exact pitches (which are to be improvised). Epsilon Lyrae is a multiple system of at least 5 stars which are approx. 162 light years distant. With an apparent brightness is +4.66 is is far overshadowed by its' closest stellar neighbour Vega, one of the brightest stars in the Northern Hemisphere. In Greek mythology, the constellation of Lyra is said to represent the lyre of Orpheus. It is one of the 48 constellations listed by Ptolemy in the 2nd century.
