Issued from their 1988 Christmas release 'Crackers International', 'Stop' is one of my favourite Erasure recordings. Reaching #2 in both Britain and Ireland, 'Stop' is quintessential Erasure with its driving beat; its catchy, hook laden lyrics and arrangement. Andy Bell's vocals one moment being angelic; then the next: pure pop princess or rock god - his range quite amazing and I think underappreciated. On paper, Erasure were an odd pairing; but Vince Clarke was such a smart writer and producer and Andy the charismatic lead singer; that their contrasting look and vibe still made one of the most compelling musical partnerships and certainly an extremely successful 80's and 90's pop outfit.
