Escape Room Tech Prop Tutorial : Document Retrieval System
In this video tutorial, I'll teach you how to use the Unity game engine to create a Escape Room tech prop that simulates a document retrieval system. Such a system could be applied in many escape room games, allowing players to search a database of police evidence, retrieve test results from a lab computer, or pull up details of incriminating documents from a shady corporation, for example. The documents would then provide additional information or clues to the players enabling them to solve a puzzle and proceed in the room. The "documents" retrieved by the system are simple PNG/JPG image files, which you can style in any way you want to fit the theme of your room. Documents are retrieved by their filename, and you can add as many files as you want to the streamingassets data folder of the application corresponding to the information you want players to be able to find. You can download Unity Personal edition for free, from https://unity.com/ Once built, you can easily deploy the application to a variety of target devices - an office-themed escape room might have a humble Windows XP PC, whereas a high-tech biolab might have a touchscreen tablet interface - again, you can simply choose a device that would fit within the context of your room.
