An introduction to the risk of decompression sickness (DCS) in astronauts during EVA. This will include an explanation of Prebreathe Protocols (PB), to affect nitrogen washout as a primary risk mitigation strategy. Symptoms associated with evolved gas in tissues will be addressed. A review of hypobaric research programs over the past 30 years to evaluate potential operational PB protocols will be reviewed, as well as DSC in those subjects participating in those studies. Barophysiological research needed to answer questions for future exploration class mission EVAs will be discussed.  Also covered will be the operational implementation of the various Pre-breathe Protocols for EVA. The treatment plan for potential Spaceflight DCS will be reviewed, highlighting the DCS Cuff-Classification system, on-orbit treatment approaches, Flight Rules, and considerations for deorbit of effected crew. www.nasa.gov/hhp/human-systems-academy
