Today I bring a little movement meditation practice. Qi Gong sequence 'the seasons' 1. focus and place awareness on the body as it moves. 2. use the hands as an anchor 3. knees soft, shoulder relaxed 4. be aware of forcing the movement, there is no need 5. look after the body and only move within your zone and range of comfort Benefits? There are many! 1. Nervous system regulation (this is the big one) Qi Gong shifts you out of that constant low-level stress state. The slow, rhythmic movement + breath helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system—so you’re not just “relaxing,” you’re training your body to come out of fight-or-flight more efficiently. 2. Improved attention and mental clarity Because the movements are simple but require awareness, it sharpens focus without strain. It’s a very different quality of attention than, say, productivity-focused concentration—more spacious, but still precise. 3. Emotional steadiness Regular practice tends to reduce emotional reactivity. Not by suppressing feelings, but by creating a bit more space between stimulus and response. You’ll likely notice you recover quicker from stress, frustration, or overwhelm. 4. Gentle but effective physical conditioning It improves balance, coordination, joint mobility, and posture—without taxing the body. That makes it sustainable, especially compared to more intense forms of exercise that people often drop off from. 5. Better breathing patterns Qi Gong naturally encourages slower, deeper, more efficient breathing. Over time, this can undo a lot of the shallow chest breathing people default to when stressed. 6. Energy management (the practical version) Forget anything overly mystical—what most people actually experience is more stable energy across the day. Less crashing, less wired-and-tired, more consistency. 7. Accessibility and consistency You don’t need a gym, equipment, or peak motivation. That’s a big deal. The real benefit comes from doing something regularly, and Qi Gong is one of the few practices people actually stick with.
