For Data Drill #11: "Booking Breakdown", we're testing our experts' ability to calculate occupancy rates from complex, overlapping date ranges. We have a dataset of ~40,000 reservations for a 200-room resort hotel in Portugal, including booking dates, check-in and check-out dates, and a cancellation flag. The task is to calculate the resort's occupancy rate for each month in the dataset. To do it right, the experts must expand each reservation into individual nightly room-nights, counting every night from check-in up to (but not including) check-out, exclude any canceled bookings, and divide the result by the total available room-nights for each month. Each expert will be on the clock as they solve the drill, and the best solution takes the crown.
