Are you aware of Functional Hypothalamic Amenorrhea (FHA) from exercise? 🤔 It often affects women who engage in intense training, especially when combined with low calorie intake or high stress levels. The hypothalamus in our brain plays a crucial role in reproduction, and in FHA, it gets suppressed by the energy demands of heavy exercise. This results in insufficient signals to the pituitary gland, leading to low levels of key hormones (FSH & LH), which can halt ovulation and cause missed periods. Interestingly, women with FHA may show a low antral follicle count on ultrasound, making it seem like they have a diminished ovarian reserve. However, the truth is their primordial follicles are intact but dormant due to missing hormonal signals. The good news? Treatments like HMG can help “wake up” these ovaries by providing the necessary hormones directly, stimulating dormant follicles to grow and improve reproductive potential over time! 🌸 Key takeaway: A low initial AFC doesn’t mean a low true egg reserve! With proper hormonal stimulation, there’s hope for improved follicle counts and fertility. Let’s work towards understanding and addressing the root causes! 💪💖 #FertilityAwareness #WomenHealth #FunctionalHypothalamicAmenorrhea #FHA #HormonalHealth #OvarianReserve
