As Bethlehem Steel relentlessly acquired properties on the south side for expansion and parking, one stubborn business owner refused to sell. Frank Muhr was the son of the original owner and was also a politician. He held out long enough until his building at 313 East Third Street was the only remaining structure on the block, surrounded by vacant lots.
Bethlehem Steel is gone, but Muhr's building remains, today surrounded by brand new structures.
