F RNGZ
RNGZ is a scanned synthesis inspired module for Cherry Audio Voltage Modular. It all started when someone linked my F_MECHZ module to scanned synthesis — which isn’t actually what MECHZ does. But it did trigger the idea to explore what happens when you really build a system around that concept. RNGZ is not based on a fixed oscillator. Instead, it uses a dynamic structure — a moving “ring” — that is scanned at audio rate. The sound comes from interaction inside the system, not from a static waveform. That’s why it continuously evolves, shifts and behaves differently depending on how you excite it. The module features three excitation modes: • HIT for percussive energy • BOW for continuous motion • BLOW for noisy and unstable behavior Combined with controls like Tension, Damp, Excite, Model, Char and Vari, this creates a wide range of sounds from soft evolving textures to metallic hits and chaotic motion. In this video you’ll hear: • evolving scanned textures • percussive metal-like sounds • stereo motion and chaotic behavior • and a playable musical patch RNGZ is built for exploration, movement and interaction — not just sound generation. ⸻ If you’re interested in modular synthesis, physical modeling or experimental sound design, this one is definitely worth exploring. #modularsynth #voltagenodular #scannedsynthesis #sounddesign #synthesizer #physicalmodeling
