Fantasy Zone - Hot Snow US & JP
This is from the arcade version of Sega's Fantasy Zone, released in 1985 in all territories, with music by Hiro. Fantasy Zone is one of the original Cute em ups, being released the same year as the original Twinbee, but while the latter plays like Xevious, Fantasy Zone actually plays a lot like defender. Hot snow is the song that plays in the fifth level, and I've actually decided to do something a little different for it. There were slight tweaks in the composition for some songs in the US version of Fantasy Zone, but this song got a whole new melody added to it! I've also included the Japanese version (which plays at around 2:32), which despite missing an entire layer of song, still manages to come off pretty well. There are quite a few versions of the soundtrack, including one inside the Sega Genesis sequel "Super Fantasy Zone", which uses the Japanese version (having never come out in the US prior to the release on the Wii Virtual Console). There are also versions on the unlicensed Tengen NES port, and the Master System port, which uses some interesting instrumentation, and actually ends up feeling MORE whimsical somehow. Sadly, I've never gotten far enough to get to the 5th stage, so I'm unable to tell you which version they use. Then there are the remade versions on the Sharp X68000, and the Sega Ages version on both the Sega Saturn and PS2, which I am again unable to comment on as far as Hot Snow goes. --- Add &fmt=18 at the end of the video's URL for high quality.
