Fasa is a giant with a gentle heart, but a powerful body. Although his owners started training him early in life, there are times moments where his impulses take over and he is able to physically overpower them, which has at times created some nearly dangerous situations such as pulling them toward roads. With our guidance, his owners decided to introduce the remote collar into their toolbox. The remote collar is often one the gentlest ways to gain control over a powerful dog. Since it doesn't rely on physical force to attain attention and control, the dog's physical strength doesn't generally translate into needing stronger corrections from the collar. In other words, contrary to common belief, the remote (electronic) collar is not chosen as the "bigger stick". Rather, it is selected because of its ability to gain and maintain control in a manner that is less aversive, less confrontational, and less forceful, all while delivering results that out-perform virtually any other training tool. Better results with less pressure is a win for everyone involved. We do not however recommend attempting training with a remote collar on your own. It is a tool that requires conditioning to ensure the dog understands what it is, and how the feeling is controlled by their behavior. Without this conditioning process, the remote collar can certainly add a layer of stress to your dog's life. This video shows Fasa's very first session with the collar.
