Fascinating Flies Rory Dimond 4 December 2025 Rory Dimond is a Wildlife Gardener and Conservationist with a passion for entomology. In this talk, Rory gives a broad overview of the range of different flies that can be found, not only on Hampstead Heath where he works with the Heath Hands, but more broadly across London and the UK. To many, flies are often unloved, underrated, overlooked or regarded as a nuisance. Rory’s talk will demonstrate the many and varied essential ecosystem services delivered by true flies, as well as revealing the fascinating diversity in form and function exhibited. Familiar or new to the world of true flies, there will be something for everyone in this talk! All LNHS Virtual Natural History Talks will: - Comprise of a 30-40 minute talk from the guest speaker, followed by a question and answer session. - Be free to attend by all, including both LNHS members and non-members. - Be hosted on Zoom and bookings will be managed through Eventbrite, with joining instructions sent to those that have booked prior to the event. - Be recorded and subsequently made available through YouTube. Talks will cover a wide range of topics, including (but not limited to) ecology, identification, recording and conservation, and in a variety of groups including birds, mammals, flowering plants, fungi, bryophytes, reptiles and amphibians, and a range of invertebrate groups.
