I've been worried about the bees all winter long. I wasn't able to setup the hives until mid summer. This didn't give the bees enough time to build up stores for the winter. So, I fed them 3 lbs of sugar in late fall to try to get them through the winter. I wasn't sure it would be enough, but in late January 2019, we had a warm day after sub zero temperatures. I was able to get in and check on the food situation. It looks like I caught them just in time! Next year, they will have built up enough honey to make it on their own.
