Unused / unissued material - date and locations unclear or unknown. Various shots of British Army Catering Corps preparing food in an outdoor camp kitchen (field kitchen). Soldiers are seen building a brick stove. Catering staff unload big tins of food from a truck. C/U of a soldier holding a small tin with the words 'The 24 Hour Ration' on it. He takes out the contents - they are all wrapped in paper. A soldier finds a clearing in the countryside and cooks field rations on an individual Tommy stove. He pours water in his mess tin and puts it on the stove. He then takes out little cubes from another tin (the 24 hour rations!). He shows the camera one cube labelled 'Tea' then crumbles it into the water on the stove. He eats some biscuits (?) and drinks tea from the tin. Catering staff cut up a pie. Elsewhere, soldiers dig a pit or trench. Soldier carrying a pie comes out of a trench and looks around as if checking air raid is over. Soldier demonstrates how to set up and use a Tommy stove. M/S of rations for 14 men or one day. C/Us of dishes containing food and ingredients. Most have labels but film is too light to make out what most of them say - 'dehydrated' is on one bowl, 'potato powder' on another.
