Feeling the Rhythm

“Feeling the Rhythm” … a new composition: a contemporary love song focused on two people sharing a life together ... Each life consists of so many events. Some are major milestones, but most make up the rhythm of everyday life – sleep, meals, work, passing the time, sharing the news of the day, and thriving together. Basically, patterns that are followed, improvised around, and which create the rhythm of life. Part of those patterns involves caring for you partner – listening, supporting, perhaps sacrificing, and, of course, loving. This is a song that really is about that – about the time you share because, in the end, time is the most valuable thing any of us has and, given it passes continuously, what we each do with our time and who we share it with is really all that matters. I drew on my own personal experiences to create this song – those little things that you remember, and which fix so many moments in one’s memories. I do hope you enjoy listening to this song as much as I enjoyed writing, arranging, and recording it. MUSIC INSIGHTS: This song is a “power ballad”. It uses numerous metaphors in its lyrics to convey its emotional content. It is designed with a flowing, repeating chord progression. That basic progression is E B C#m A for the verse. The song is structured as a verse, pre-chorus, chorus style of song, so that chord sequence leads into the pre-chorus which runs a slightly different harmony: C#m Abm A E, and repeats that which leads into the chorus’ sequence of C#m Abm A B repeated twice. That ending of the chorus’ sequence leads back to the verse sequence since the B chord is the fifth of the tonic, in this case, E. This song also has a bridge that provides additional content in support of the story being told by its verses. The bridge, as is often the case, has a different harmonic structure and lyrical rhythm for contrast. In addition, about 2/3s of the way through the song, the harmony modulates up to a different, unrelated key which naturally increases the uplift in the music and match the emotional message of the lyrics. VIDEO INSIGHTS: The video scenes show a variety of couples enjoying the joy of their lives together as they share their time together, very much echoing the content of the lyrics.
