He was a fiddler, banjoist, banjo builder, carpenter, and all-around entrepreneur. Born near Skull Camp Mountain in Surry County, North Carolina, he moved around quite a bit before settling in Carroll County, Virginia, where he ran a country store, made banjos, promoted fiddlers conventions, and even co-founded a record company. He was a member of the Round Peak Band, and later, the legendary Camp Creek Boys. Though he was slightly younger than his musical peers Tommy Jarrell and Fred Cockerham, his contributions are just as great, and the instruments he built are still prized today in the old-time community. Thanks to Brad Leftwich for the above biographical information. It's gleaned from his fantastic instructional Round Peak clawhammer banjo book: https://www.melbay.com/Products/96660M/round-peak-style-clawhammer-banjo.aspx According to Dale Morris, who grew up a few miles away from Kyle Creed and played music with him, "Kyle named [this tune] after Roscoe Russell, who was playing guitar with Kyle when they recorded the tune. Russell had brought the tune to the group, and when Kyle asked him the name, he couldn't recall or perhaps it was an original tune without a name yet. Kyle called it 'Roscoe' on the album." Thanks for the inside scoop, Dale!
