In this video, I’m diving into an old children’s book, The Paul White'sJungle Doctor, and using its beautiful black-and-white illustrations as inspiration for my sketchbook. There’s something so freeing about borrowing compositions from vintage drawings and then completely reimagining them in colour.
I chat about a discovery at the art shop discussing the Faber Castell Gold Faber Aqua compared to Derwent Inktense.
Today I’m painting hippos (which I don’t draw nearly enough!) and chatting as I go about creativity, interpretation, and how using existing illustrations can spark fresh, original work. It’s not about copying — it’s about responding, playing, and letting colour bring new life to old pages.
Come paint some hippos with me 🦛✨
