This video explains how and why concrete deteriorates in a fire. There are critical temperatures in a fire that concrete will start to deteriorate rapidly and then no longer be useful. Concrete will deteriorate at different rates depending on the aggregate and loading on the concrete. Results from laboratory testing is shown. In addition, the change in aggregate color is a great indicator of the temperature of the concrete in the fire. This is a useful tool to evaluate the temperature the concrete reached in a fire.
