FIRE RESISTANT COATING SYSTEM
When exposed to temperatures of around 550°C, structural steel can lose up to 50% of its load-bearing strength, and at around 600–650°C, the steel can lose almost two-thirds of its structural capacity. This means that during a fire, an unprotected steel structure can begin to deform, buckle, or collapse within minutes. This is why fire resistant coatings play such a vital role. These coatings create a thermal barrier that delays heat transfer, allowing the structure to maintain integrity long enough for evacuation and firefighting operations. Another area often underestimated is HVAC duct systems. In many large buildings—malls, hospitals, airports, and commercial complexes—duct networks can unintentionally become pathways for fire and smoke spread if not properly protected. Globally, many fire investigations—from high-rise incidents to industrial fires—have shown that structural collapse and smoke spread often occur because passive protection was inadequate or improperly installed. As India continues to construct taller buildings, larger infrastructure, airports, metro systems, data centers, and industrial facilities, the importance of fire-resistant coatings and passive fire protection systems becomes even more critical.
