Some of the most costly decisions might not look like mistakes at first. They might look efficient. Reasonable. Even helpful. That’s first-order thinking—focusing on the immediate expected Foutcome. The challenge is what happens next. Avoiding a tough conversation might preserve the moment… but create bigger issues later. Saying yes might feel collaborative… but dilute your focus where it matters most. Second-order thinking is asking: “What are the ripple effects of this decision?” And to make it more practical— you don’t have to figure that out alone. Getting input from people with different perspectives often surfaces impacts you wouldn’t have considered on your own. You don’t need to overanalyze every decision. But slowing down just enough to think one step ahead can save a lot of time—and rework—later. Where have you seen second-order thinking make a difference? #LeadershipDevelopment #DecisionMaking #CriticalThinking #LeadershipSkills #LearningAndDevelopment #StrategicThinking #ManagementSkills #WorkplaceLearning #ProfessionalDevelopment #LeadershipMatters
