I drove from LA to Santa Fe, NM this week for a little quarantine vacation with friends, and got a very special surprise lesson in throwing pottery from my good friend Liam Badger of Canyon Road Pottery. This is something I have been wanting to try for a very long time. It was pretty much as I expected, very grounding, intuitive, yet difficult. And just like any other medium with high malleability, it encourages creativity on a higher level. There are so many different types of clay, throwing techniques, finishes, and colors of glaze. I originally wanted to make a biot pot, a traditional storage vessel originating from the village of Biot in the south of France, but.... After some research I found that these pots aren’t actually wheel-thrown, but hand-formed around a wood and rope mold... so we switched gears and I made an amorphous yet seemingly “advanced” smoothie cup! And then following my lesson, Liam demonstrated how a professional does it ;) Pottery Wheel: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D8CJC7Y/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=hollywoodvi0e-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B07D8CJC7Y&linkId=24f881790ba75c796dbc9df065819b8c Liam’s Favorite Clay, New Mexico Clay Company: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08BX634BN/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=hollywoodvi0e-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B08BX634BN&linkId=8bb192eea06c4f4e58c116f1e63a4195 Liam’s Other Favorite Clay, Laguna Clay Company: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083Y4Y2QM/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=hollywoodvi0e-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B083Y4Y2QM&linkId=5bb9badc5b8f8c59fcb03e3a9cdd3e0a All the music in this video is found on Epidemic Sound. https://www.epidemicsound.com/referral/4pw7dh/ I make a small amount of money when you buy from these links.
