Fixing partial working bow thruster

Today’s episode covers one of my monthly maintenance checks which discovers a fault in the bow thruster where only starboard works. The thruster is a simple machine only a few working parts (relay / solenoid, motor). How to diagnosis the problem .. step one : go online and research 🧐 similar problems, some really helpful advice from yachting monthly forums. After checking thruster tunnel was clear, check motor voltage. Check control device is working correctly, in our case swap wires so port button operates starboard thrust which we know works. In my case I wanted to be absolutely sure it was the relay as they are expensive so I called our guy 👨🏻‍🔧. After much diagnosing he concurred it was the relay. However, it’s just a fix .. the real problem is the humidity and condensation causing the problem. I’m looking into ventilation for that area.
