The first step is to create the head of the character with the Curvature Tool, then use the Pen tool to create the shape of the hair.
Where the head and hair elements meet, you should place the ear. The next will go down from the middle of the ear until it reaches the body.
The color scheme that we'll be using in this Illustrator tutorial is:
