This was a fun project I recently built for a dear friend of mine. Eucalyptus with Waterlox Marine finish - good combo for outdoor projects which doesn't break the budget!
Yes, I know mixing wood with fire is a risky endeavor. 😁 I would not recommend this project with a conventional gas or charcoal grill. The flat top, however is quite a bit different. The heat is concentrated on that cast iron top and it sits ABOVE the wood portions. Also, there is no issue with 'flame ups' as with traditional grills. I did several test runs throughout the build process, checking for any excessive heat transfer. Thankfully, all went well including a run of all four burners on high for 45 minutes!
