Flint knapping preforms is a great way to start knapping. All of the techniques used can be transferred onto bigger stone.
You do not need the skill of spalling, bi-facing and reduction to get to the stage of a preform. Using a cut and ground preform gets you straight onto doing the finishing work.
I really like them as they transport easily so I can take them on day walks. They help me practice pressure flaking, setting up platforms and I get a nice finished item at the end.
