Luc (Jonathan Lambert, REALITY de Quentin Dupieux), un accro à la coke d'âge mûr, passe une nuit plutôt horrible. Parti affronter son ex au club où elle travaille, déterminé à la reconquérir, une chose en entraîne une autre et il se retrouve coincé dans une des cabines des toilettes. Piégé, il faut le préciser, avec une grande quantité de cocaïne qu'il a volé au revendeur du bar. Lorsque Luc est retrouvé dans les toilettes, une série de circonstances de plus en plus folles est déclenchée, allant de l'hilarant au grotesque, alors que le monde de Luc est assailli de toutes parts dans une course contre la montre qui vous laissera bouche bée. Après avoir remporté des prix partout, de Clermont-Ferrand à Sitges, avec ses courts-métrages inspirés (DERNIER CRI, PARIS BY NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, ANTINOME), Grégory Morin, super-force parisienne, a maintenant réalisé un long-métrage complètement et glorieusement fou. Évoquant Dupieux, Gaspar Noé et les débuts d'Álex de la Iglesia, FLUSH est aussi imaginatif et délirant qu'il est hyper cinématographique, un témoignage du génie indie où l’horreur écœurante est à revendre. Au centre de tout cela, Lambert livre une performance sauvage, déchirante et maniaque, empreinte d’une profondeur émotionnelle inattendue, d’une présence unique au milieu de l'escalade de circonstances absurdes qui tourbillonnent (et se fracassent) autour de lui. Trapped, we should mention, with a heap of coke that he stole from the bar’s resident dealer. He’s soon found, setting off an increasingly crazy series of circumstances that veer from the hilarious to the intensely grotesque as Luc’s world is assailed from every conceivable direction in a bizarre race against time that will have you gasping. After years of winning awards everywhere from Clermont-Ferrand to Sitges with his inspired short film work (DERNIER CRI, PARIS BY NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, ANTINOME…), Parisian super-force Grégory Morin has made a feature, and it’s utterly, gloriously insane. Evocative of Dupieux by way of Gaspar Noé and early Álex de la Iglesia, FLUSH is as inventively delirious as it is hyper-cinematic, a real-time, over-the-top blast of indie brilliance with gross-out curves to spare. In the centre of it all, Lambert delivers a wild performance ripping with mania and unexpected emotional depth, a unique presence amidst the escalating, absurd circumstances that twist and turn (and smash and cut) around him. Tight, imaginative and quite frankly miraculous, FLUSH consistently ups the ante in darkly comic sleaze and shock, strapping it together with bigger-than-life heart to deliver a singular “huis clos” thrill ride on the wings of drain pipes and degeneracy. – Mitch Davis
