Flying Squirrel 8 inch Testing Raw Flight
So 8 inch props on the Flying Squirrel work so well that I've decided to make the drone an 8inch frame. Sorry this means delays! But trust me it'll be worth it ;) I was getting 5min of freestyle with 2200mah 6S lipos flying like this ^^^ and 6 minutes cruising around. I also tried two 2600mah Li-ion packs in parallel (5200mah) and got a flight time of 13:45!!!. My worries about extra vibrations and worse handling in turbulent air with 8 inch props seem to clearly be a non-issue. In fact the drone handles propwash even better than with 6 inch props! I don't know why 8inch does so much better in the wind than 7 inch props, but hey it works! I will need to stiffen up the arms a bit and make arrangements for long range antennas so that means I am making yet another prototype (V6), but 8inch is the solution I was looking for to improve endurance and cruising speed over Le Pigeon and luckily handling and agility is quite good thanks to the more compact and light weight frame of the Flying Squirrel. Next I want to try 3008 1155kV motors with the stiffer frame to see how bonkers I can fly. When doing hover tests I was getting 9 minutes hover with 1180kV and 9:30 with 860kV. So maybe the higher kV won't hurt normal flying endurance so much? We'll see!
