Forging The Crane Wind Chime
This video is certainly a little different than normal. Thanks all for taking the time to watch it. If you like it let me know by hitting the like button and dropping me a comment below. As I said in the video i saw a post on pinterest that really got my attention. I couldn't however find the original person who posted it. I decided to challenge myself to see if i could make the main frame of it out of one single piece...and I did! It was a big challenge but certainly not impossible. The main frame was made of 1/4"x1" flat bar mild steel cut 36" long. The patina was reached through brass brush transfer and then coated while at 400-600 degrees F with bees wax. The rivets around the perimeter are made from 1/4" solid copper wire. I picked it up at your basic local big box store out of the electrical section. The chimes are made from 3/4" copper pipe that i got from a scrap pile at the shop. The chimes are cut in lengths increasing by 1/2" every piece. I started with 5" and worked my way up to 7 1/2". The key is to make each chime 1/2" longer than the last one. The string used to hang them is from the guts of para-cord. Its quite strong and should last quite some time. I got some of the copper ideas via conversations with Hans Groff from Charming Hollow Forge. Hes a bit more artsy fartsy than I am so thank you Hans lol. Again thank you all for watching.
