Forgotten Thunder (a tribute to Peter Steele)
Forgotten Thunder I remember like a ghost from yesterday that old forgotten place I came in just to pass the time then I saw your face Something broke inside of me like thunder in my chest you said something I don’t recall but it never left I gave you cash with shaking hands I couldn’t breathe or speak somehow I asked you out that night you said “okay”… so weak There was a summer that died too soon in the silence of “yes” and “no” and a look that still comes back to me but you chose to let me go One word we never said aloud turned into all these years thirty years of separate lives still drowning in the same fears We live between the lines never whole, never apart we give each other everything except our hearts Different lives, same regret time we can’t undo if this isn’t love what the hell is it So close… and forever far You tell me all your broken days the hands that held you tight I listen like it doesn’t hurt like I sleep at night Rings and names and other lives faces come and go but every time it falls apart you’re the one I know If I had stayed back then or you had followed me would we still be dying slow or something we could be Maybe this is what we are a wound that never scars all those years just bleeding out still trapped inside these hearts And when it all is over and the silence finally comes there’ll be something left between us something never done we were something real together… just never at the same time So close… and forever far
