Frances Coke period drama by Wendy Freer
Frances was born in 1602, the daughter of Sir Edward Coke, First Lord Chief Justice and Privy Councillor, and his second wife, Lady Elizabeth Hatton. Her father forced her into an unhappy marriage with the elder brother of George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham. Frances wasn’t the sort of woman to let that hold her back and she had many adventures in her short life.
