Developed in 2019 through a collaboration between the Department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies (MLCS), the Department of Computing Science, and Campus Saint-Jean with support from a Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund (TLEF) grant, the platform integrates educational research with community engagement to promote authentic language use. The application provides an accessible and motivating environment where both native and non-native French speakers can practice and develop their language skills through various self-paced activities—including quizzes, event participation, and article reading. Users earn Star points and XP points by attending events and scanning QR codes, which can be redeemed for prizes or used to unlock new achievement levels. Additional features such as leaderboards, badges, and digital rewards further encourage learners to stay engaged. Currently, Francopass hosts approximately 1,400 registered users with an active user base of around 70–140 participants.
