The lecture explores how these three elements interact with one another. Freedom alone is not enough to guide moral action; it must be directed by conscience so that choices are oriented toward what is truly good. At the same time, conscience does not function purely as a private or subjective voice. It must be formed and nourished by the wisdom of the Christian tradition, the teachings of the Church, and the shared discernment of the faithful. The Church, therefore, plays an essential role in helping believers interpret moral truth and apply it responsibly in complex situations. The overall purpose of the lecture is to present a balanced vision of the moral life in the Catholic tradition. Rather than choosing between personal freedom and Church authority, the tradition seeks to integrate them. Human beings are free and responsible moral agents, guided by conscience, and supported by the communal wisdom of the Church. By examining historical thinkers, Church teachings, and contemporary developments in moral theology, the lecture aims to show how these elements work together to shape a faithful and mature moral life.
