Freestanding Mode TENG with Interdigitated Electrodes in COMSOL Multiphysics: Tutorial 14
In this video, we model a very important and interesting type of Triboelectric Nanogenerators (TENG) which is the Freestanding Mode TENG with an interdigitated design or grating structured-system. The Freestanding mode is a type of TENG in which a contact layer without any electrical connection can freely move within other contact materials and electrodes. The interdigitated design incorporates multiple units of contact materials and electrodes which are useful for sensing small motions as well as efficient energy harvesting due to faster charge transfer between electrodes. We develop the model for a 4-unit interdigitated design and find the open circuit voltage (Voc) and short circuit transferred charge (Qsc), and then compare the results with our reference to validate our simulations. We also find the Qsc of the case with 1-unit design for comparison between the interdigitated and regular Freestanding designs. The proposed model can be used for the understanding, design, and optimization of various TENG systems based on the Freestanding grating-structured mode. #Triboelectric_Nanogenerator #Energy_Harvesting #Self_Powered_Sensing #Freestanding_Mode_TENG #Open_Circuit_Condition #Short_Circuit_Condition #Electrostatics_Interface #TENG #Nanogenerator
