Summary: From Discontentment to Devotion Lust is more than sexual sin — it is discontentment with God. Whether it is lust for money, sex, drugs, power, or control, it begins when the heart believes that God is not enough. In 1 Timothy 6:9–10, we see that longing for money causes people to wander from the faith. That same principle applies to any craving that replaces devotion to God. Lust is misplaced worship. It slowly pulls us away from covenant faithfulness. In James 1:14–15, lust conceives and gives birth to sin. It starts in the heart before it ever shows up in behavior. Recovery means addressing the root — not just the fruit. Marriage is a covenant before God, not just a contract between people. When we lust outside our marriage, we are not only betraying our spouse — we are violating covenant with God. Covenant means binding loyalty. Love for God is proven by obedience (John 14:15). The flesh always wants more. The Spirit teaches contentment. Recovery is learning to say, “God, You are enough.” Contentment is spiritual warfare. Devotion protects covenant. Obedience guards intimacy with God. Lust leads to wandering. Contentment leads to faithfulness.
