From the Heart Within

There’s nothing from the outside That can stain the soul within It’s the fire in the heart of man Where all the wars begin I was reaching for a sign in the sky While truth was standing near And a voice spoke through the silence: “Why do you live in fear?” The spirit’s always willing But the flesh is weak and torn Still a whisper calls the broken To be humble, to be reborn Fear not, only believe When you fall down to your knees Lose your life, you’ll find it there In the cross, in the air First will fall and last will rise Truth is hidden from proud eyes Knock and it will open wide— He is calling from inside Children at the table fed But crumbs still reach the low Grace is deeper than the lines That we draw below “What you say of Me,” He asked “Will you stand or turn away?” “You’re the Christ,” the answer came “The truth, the life, the way” Now the wolves are all around us And the lambs are sent alone But the Spirit gives the words to speak We are never on our own Fear not, only believe When you fall down to your knees Lose your life, you’ll find it there In the cross, in the air First will fall and last will rise Truth is hidden from proud eyes Knock and it will open wide— He is calling from inside Watch and pray in the midnight hour When the shepherd’s struck and scattered Hearts divided, house against house Only truth is what has mattered Many come and claim His name Deceivers dressed in light But clouds will break with glory’s flame When He returns in might Take courage now, arise and stand He’s calling out your name With man it’s lost, impossible— With God it’s not the same Fear not, only believe Every soul can be redeemed From the dust to heaven’s throne You were never left alone Salt the earth and walk in peace Let the striving finally cease Through the narrow gate we run— Until His kingdom comes Out of the heart, the truth will flow A seed that’s sown in time And blessed are the eyes that see The holy, the divine
