With the engine removed from the plane and unable to be run, corrosion is a very real concern. Although this Lycoming O-320 engine has been filled with 5 gallons of motor oil, its crankshaft and camshaft are still well above the level of the oil, and free to rust away in our coastal humid air. Rotating the engine weekly will bathe these important components in oil on a regular basis, and hopefully prevent rust from forming long enough to get the rest of the upgrades already in progress on the airplane finished up.
