Fuelling Change

In most villages surrounding our forests, people depend on firewood for their daily energy needs. Harvest of firewood leads to degradation of wildlife habitats. Life isn’t easy for the people who collect it either. Villagers, especially women, face multiple challenges including long arduous walks, physical injury from wildlife and chronic diseases from smoke inhalation. Is there a solution that could result in a win-win for both forests and people? This film follows the journey of some villagers, and a team of conservationists as they wade through the fears, apprehensions, and a resistance to change, to find a solution that benefits all. Nature Conservation Foundation is involved in a small, constructive intervention to support local communities to meet their basic domestic cooking fuel needs by providing Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) stoves to families who reside adjoining a wildlife forest corridor that connects Malai Mahadeshwara Hills Wildlife Sanctuary and Biligirirangaswamy Temple Tiger Reserve in southern India.
