Nervous about doing your IRB Crew Assessment or Assessment day coming up? This is a POV of our new crewmen doing their crew assessments. All passed and are ready to save lives! I've had a few ask about these assessments so I wanted to provide this to give a better image of what is expected of you. All the best and go save lives!
Just remember, assessors want you to pass. Key points to takeaway:
- Point out any hazards you see, use your arm to directly point to the hazard e.g. Surfers, Sandbanks, seaweed etc.
- Look to the shoreline and to the assessor often, roughly every 5 seconds (just a quick glance will do), and make sure you aren't ignoring signals. Always acknowledge signals by putting one up straight up and down in one movement. Must be done with every signal given.
