GACD e-Hub Advanced Programme - Lecture 2B Adapting frameworks for scale
This lecture from Urvita Bhatia, Yashi Gandhi, and Praveen Pradeep forms part of Module 2 of the GACD e-Hub Advanced Programme. This is an open access programme intended for mid-career researchers interested in developing their knowledge and skills in the science of scaling up NCD programmes. Lecture key messages: ◾ If the fundamental principles and structure of the original theory, model or framework (TMF) remain intact, even with significant modifications to account for context or scale, it can still be considered an adaptation ◾ Adding constructs to address gaps in the original TMF (e.g., RE-AIM adapted to include health equity dimensions might still be RE-AIM) is often part of adaptation. ◾ When an adaptation leads to a framework designed for a distinctly different focus (e.g., moving from individual-level adoption to system-wide transformation), it may transcend adaptation and qualify as a new TMF ◾ An adapted TMF that undergoes extensive testing and validation in different contexts = new TMF.
