Garbage - beautifulgarbage (Electronic Press Kit)
Recorded in June 2001 to promote the beautifulgarbage album release. Rolling Stone magazine named beautifulgarbage one of its Top 10 Albums of the Year 2001. The third record from Garbage, contained the European and Australian hits "Androgyny" and the massive "Cherry Lips", as well as the singles "Breaking Up The Girl", an Australian top 20, and "Shut Your Mouth", a UK Top 20. beautifulgarbage sold 2 million copies worldwide, and was certified double-platinum in Australia, and gold in UK and Canada. In its week of release it hit #1 in Australia, #2 in Europe (out-debuting Kylie Minogue's "Fever" juggernaut album) and #13 in the United States. beautifulgarbage followed up two classic Garbage records: the self-titled debut album, and the follow up Version 2.0, which each sold 4 million copies worldwide. The debut album Garbage, which was home to the hits "Queer", "Stupid Girl" and "Only Happy When It Rains", as well as their reknowned debut single "Vow", slowburned its way to the top echelons of the charts in UK, Australia and USA, with the band working it around the globe on tour, while supplementing its single run with a new version of "Milk" produced with Tricky and a reworked "#1 Crush" for the soundtrack of the seven-million selling Romeo + Juliet soundtrack. The debut set was nominated for three Grammys: Best New Artist, plus Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance for "Stupid Girl" in 1997; Garbage won Best Breakthrough at the MTV Europe Music Awards. Garbage followed up the debut with their second record, Version 2.0, and dropped six hit singles ("Push It", "I Think I'm Paranoid", "Special", "When I Grow Up", "The Trick Is to Keep Breathing" and "You Look So Fine") and recorded the 1999 James Bond theme "The World is Not Enough", following four Grammy nominations: Best Rock Album and Album of the Year 1999, plus Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance for "Special" in 2000. Their visionary videos were nominated for ten MTV VMAs, winning one ("Special") for Best Special Effects in 1999, as well as a further three MTV EMAs and a VH1 Fashion Award (again, for "Special"), which they won. Garbage followed beautfulgarbage up with the Bleed Like Me album, which powered to #4 in the US, UK and Australia, on the back of the hit single "Why Do You Love Me", which also made the UK top 10 and the US Modern Rock top 10. Garbage disbanded for a hiatus from 2005-2012, during which time they released a greatest hits collection, Absolute Garbage. In 2012, Garbage launched their own record label and released their comeback album Not Your Kind of People, which hit the Top Ten in the US, UK and Australia, followed up by Strange Little Birds in 2016, which was the #1 Rock Album in the US the week of release. Garbage are currently finishing their seventh studio album, due for release early in 2021.
