What is the gas assisted injection molding? Today we will talk about the case of gas-assisted injection molding of bicycle frame. During the injection molding process, push the melt plastic to fill the mold cavity by high pressure, and the gas is maintained to form a hollow section inside the thick wall of the plastic part, this molding process is called gas assisted injection molding. The bicycle frame is made by PA66+GF30 material, the mold cavity is 1*1 , texture surface finishing on cavity and core side, the average wall is 4mm, and the maximum wall thickness is 70mm, we used the full shot by gas-assisted injection molding process , the cycle time is 80 seconds, it achieves fully automatic production. Traditional bicycle frames are made of metal material, and metal materials are composed of multiple hardware parts that must be welded to form a complete part, and the surface needs to be spray-painted and second-processing, the part process is very complex and the not well consistency. But the strength and tenacity will be much better than metal frame when we make plastic frame by gas-assisted molding, and also the production process will be more simple by only one injection step, the tenacity is better and very high efficiency with same products for every shot, with different colors can be produced by gas-assisted injection molding, and the weight is 3 times lighter than metal material.
