Gas Hed Turd
Turd flies have proven very successful for grunter in South African estuaries and will make sure to fish them in the mangroves in Florida on my next trip later this year. The fly came about after Ian Kitching started experimenting with floating Prawn imitations for grunter. He then started tying it in a more articulated style with two hooks. Conrad Botes, Peter Coetzee and Leroy Botha also started to experiment with the articulated style and since around 2012 it evolved in a very successful pattern. #saltwaterflies, #crustaceanimitations, #crustaceanflies, #crustacea, #estuaryflies, #mangroveflies, #floatingturd, #surfaceflies, #jvice, #griptyingmaterials, #gripflyhooks, #arnolaubscher, #iankitching, #conradbotes, #petercoetzee, #leroybotha, #arnolaubscherflytying, #whitinghackle, #whitingdryflyhackle, #cnfdesign Recipe: Hook 1: Grip 21711NSL https://www.scientificfly.com/product-category/grip-hooks/salt-water-hooks/ Thread: Grip Tying Thread #3/0 https://www.scientificfly.com/product-category/grip-tying-materials/fly-tying-thread/ Tail: Grip Sili Legs & Crystal Flash https://www.scientificfly.com/product-category/grip-tying-materials/legs/ Abdomen: Deer hair Hook 2: Grip 21711NSL Body: 2mm wide strips of 2mm foam Nylon loop: 20lb nylon
