Gated Pipe Irrigation System

Have you ever wondered how a rancher or farmer gets water to their crops? There are a number of different ways, from dry lands (ones which rely solely on rain and natural sources) to expensive and high tech sprinkler systems. This video explores the Gated Pipe System used on the ranch where Fidgit gets to work when she's not hiking. Of the gated pipes, some are gravity fed, while other lands get water pumped to them through using the power of a tractor engine and a pump system. A rancher in these northern climes can get a couple cuttings of hay, off of a field in a season. This is the feed for their animals through the long winter months and seeing this process through, from earthen fields, to piled hay bales, is one of the fundamental processes to maintaining life on a ranch. Switching the water by opening and closing gates is a lot of work, in wet and buggy conditions but hey, as a fake farmer, I felt pretty lucky just to be involved with getting the sustenance the grasses need in order to grow into the nutrients the cows need, in order to become the energy we need to keep doing it.
